The Relevo network reported that the transfer of Bayern Munich player Alphonso Davies to Real Madrid next summer has been frozen, and the reason is a change in priorities at the Royal Club.
Davies’ name has been linked to Real Madrid over the past year, and many Spanish newspapers have suggested that the two parties have already reached an agreement under which the player will move to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer of 2024.
But the latest report confirms that Real Madrid’s management now prefers to sign a new centre-back and considers it a priority, especially after the confirmation of captain Nacho Fernandez’s departure.
For this reason, Florentino Pérez’s management is preparing to pay a large sum to obtain the services of a centre-back instead of the left-back position, which seems guaranteed with the presence of Ferland Mendy.
At the same time, Real Madrid did not close the door to including Davies and only froze the idea next summer except in one case, which is the departure of Mendy, whose contract expires in the summer of 2025.
If Mendy decides to stay until the end of his contract, then the Spanish club can wait for Davies until the summer of the following year and include him on a free basis at the end of his contract with Bayern Munich.
This plan is not guaranteed, given the fact that the Canadian player is receiving interest from many clubs around the world, and that Bayern Munich wants to sell him if he does not reach an agreement with him on the renewal instead of him leaving for free in 2025.
