Ancelotti answers: Will Real Madrid sign a new right-back?

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has ruled out his club signing a new right-back to replace Dani Carvajal after the serious injury that will keep him out of action for a year.

Real Madrid announced in an official statement that Carvajal had damaged three ligaments in his knee and had undergone surgery in the past few days following his injury against Villarreal on Saturday.

Ancelotti was asked about the possibility of replacing Carvajal with another right-back, to which he replied, “Lucas Vazquez gives us great confidence.”

He added, “We have time to talk about whether or not to sign a new player during the international break.”

He concluded, “We must take into account that the market is currently closed, so we do not have many options.”

Real Madrid have the right to sign any player to replace Carvajal in La Liga within a month from now, provided that his salary is only 80% of the 34-year-old’s salary.

The Spanish club may wait until the winter transfer window to have many and varied options, instead of signing any player for free at the present time.
