Announcing Barcelona’s opponent in the Joan Gamper Cup and the match date

Barcelona announced in an official statement that French League runner-up Monaco will be its opponent in the Joan Gamper Trophy opening friendly match of the new season.

For decades, Barcelona fans have become accustomed to the team playing the Joan Gamper Cup in its home stadium a few days before the start of its official matches. Last year, Barcelona met Tottenham and beat them 4-2.

According to a club statement, Barcelona will set up a match with Monaco, the French League runner-up, on Monday, August 12, at nine o’clock in the evening, Mecca time, at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

This is the fifth time in history that a French team has participated in the Joan Gamper Cup, and the first for the French emirate’s team to meet with Barcelona in the historic friendly competition.

Perhaps the 2024 Joan Gamper Cup has special value, as it will witness Barcelona’s celebrations of the club’s 125th anniversary.

Monaco’s training is supervised by Austrian coach Adi Hutter, who previously faced Hansi Flick 4 times when the former was coach of Frankfurt and the other of Bayern Munich, where the current Barcelona coach succeeded in beating him 3 times and suffered one defeat.
