Egyptian media confirmed that the referee for the Al-Ahly and Zamalek match in the opening of the second round of the 2025 Egyptian League will be local.
Usually, the summit matches were held with foreign referees to ensure integrity and the sensitivity of the confrontations, but this time the Egyptian Federation delayed bringing in any foreign referee for the match.
Despite Al-Ahly’s request and the desire of the Clubs Association to bring in a foreign referee, time was pressing everyone, and there was no choice but to rely on a local referee for the summit.
A large number of Egyptian international referees are in a camp outside the country, and the refereeing committee has a choice between the duo Mahmoud Bassiouni and Mahmoud Nagi.
The latest reports agreed that the referees committee decided to assign the task of managing the summit between Al-Ahly and Zamalek to referee Mahmoud Bassiouni.
Bassiouni will be assisted by the duo Ahmed Tawfik Talab and Sami Helal, while Hamada Al-Qalawi will be the fourth referee, while Ahmed Al-Ghandour will manage the video technology, assisted by Hani Abdel Fattah and Mohamed El-Shennawy.
Bassiouni managed two matches for Al-Ahly, the first against Ceramica, where the Red Devils won, and the other against Enppi, where they tied, while he managed two matches for Zamalek, the first against Ghazl El-Mahalla, where they won 4-0, and the other against Pyramids, where they lost 3-0.
