Rumors have circulated in the past few hours that Zamalek rejects the idea of playing the African Super Cup against Al-Ahly in Saudi Arabia, and that Hussein Labib’s management is considering withdrawing from the confrontation.
Zamalek withdrew from the derby in the Egyptian League due to its disputes with the Club Association, and was counted as the loser of the match, with an additional 3 points deducted at the end of the season.
The dispute this time was over holding the match in Saudi Arabia, after Zamalek officials’ relations with Riyadh season officials worsened due to Al-Abyad’s refusal to play the Egyptian League match there last April.
However, Zamalek came out through its official spokesman, Ahmed Salem, and denied the rumors about refusing to participate in the African Super Cup, and confirmed the White Knight’s commitment to being in Saudi Arabia and participating in the match without a crisis.
Salem said in statements to the Filgoal website, “We will definitely play the match, and everything that has been raised to the contrary is baseless.”
It is noteworthy that the match will be held on Friday, September 27, in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, but its stadium has not been announced yet.
