Arda Guler’s goal with the Turkish national team against Georgia in Euro 2024 broke a historical record that was registered in the name of the legend Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Real Madrid star became the youngest player to score in the history of the European Nations Cup, as he scored his goal at the age of 19 years and 114 days.
The record was held by Ronaldo, after he scored Portugal’s goal in Greece in the opening of Euro 2004, when he was 19 years and 128 days old.
Now Ronaldo will meet Guler, when Portugal plays Turkey next Saturday at Signal Iduna Park in the second round of the group stage.
Turkey won over Georgia 3-1, while Portugal narrowly defeated the Czech Republic 2-1, but Ronaldo did not succeed in scoring in the entire match he played.
“The Don” aspires to become the biggest player to score in Euro competitions, and perhaps Montella’s squad may be the tool to achieve this goal if he succeeds in scoring against the Turkish national team.
It is noteworthy that Ronaldo has become the player who participated most in European Nations competitions, as he played in the competition over 6 different editions, and he is also the tournament’s all-time top scorer with 14 goals.
