Argentina Officially Apologizes to France for National Team’s Racist Chants

Karina Milei, the sister of Argentina’s President, Javier Milei, went to the French embassy in Buenos Aires to apologize for Vice President Victoria Villarruel’s comments regarding the racist chants by Argentina’s national team players.

Argentina’s national team players had celebrated their Copa America victory with racist chants against France, which prompted an official complaint from the French Football Federation to its Argentine counterpart to FIFA.

Vice President Villarruel came out and supported the players’ chants, saying that Paris is a colonial capital and the French are hypocrites.

Presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni said that the president’s sister went to the French embassy to clarify that the unfortunate comment made by the vice president on social media was personal.

This step comes days before the expected trip of Argentina’s president to France at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron to attend the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
