Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that he is considering relying on some of his defenders in attacking positions to fill the gap caused by recent injuries.
Arsenal lost the services of the duo Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz until the end of the season, and there are doubts that Bukayo Saka will return again this season, with Gabriel Martinelli’s injury continuing.
In the press conference before the Leicester City match, Arteta said that he does not rule out relying on some defenders in attack to solve the crisis.
The Spanish coach said, “Playing a defender in the position of a clear striker has happened many times before, it is an option for us.”
A journalist nominated Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori for this task, to which Arteta responded that it is possible.
It has been reported in the English newspapers that the first option currently in Arteta’s mind to fill the gap is midfielder Mikel Merino, as he plans to make him the Gunners’ striker in the coming period.
It is noteworthy that Arsenal occupies the second place in the Premier League standings, 7 points behind the leader Liverpool.
