The match between Club Brugge and Aston Villa witnessed the strangest penalty ever in the Champions League this season.
In the 51st minute, the English club had a goal kick, and Emiliano Martinez put the ball with his hand on the six-meter line and then passed it to defender Tyrone Minges.
But strangely, Minges held the ball with his hand and passed it back to Martinez, so German referee Tobias Steller awarded a penalty kick to Club Brugge.
The video technology and television replay confirmed the correctness of the decision, especially since Martinez actually passed the ball to start the attack and Minges’ argument that he thought the Argentine did not do so was not logical.

Hans Vankaan converted the penalty kick into Aston Villa’s net to give his team the first goal and the winning goal that inflicted Unai Emery’s squad’s first European defeat this season.
Vancan’s penalty was the first goal conceded by Aston Villa in the Champions League after three previous clean sheets.
Aston Villa eventually lost due to this goal, leaving them with 9 points and dropping to fifth place after finishing the previous round as leaders.
