Werder Bremen star, Mitchell Weiser, announced that he has decided to represent the Algerian national team in the next period of his career.
Weiser has a long career in German stadiums, and his most prominent experiences were with Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen.
Weiser is of Algerian origin, albeit somewhat distant, as his maternal grandfather was Algerian, although the player himself was born and lived his life in Germany.
Weiser said after Bremen’s victory over Wolfsburg on Sunday in the Bundesliga, “FIFA gave me the green light and now I have Algerian citizenship and I can play with the national team.”
He concluded, “I have to convince the Algerian technical staff of my level, I hope to join the national team and participate there always.”
Weiser, 30, has previously joined the German youth teams, but has never represented the German national team.
Weiser plays mainly in the right-back position, but he can also play in defensive midfield positions or on the right wing.
