Atalanta Star Out of European Super Cup

Atalanta has confirmed in an official statement that star striker Gianluca Scamacca has suffered a cruciate ligament rupture, ruling him out for an extended period.

Scamacca picked up the injury during a recent friendly against Parma and underwent detailed scans that revealed the need for surgery and an absence of at least six months.

As a result, coach Gian Piero Gasperini will be without his star player from last season when they face Real Madrid on August 14th in the European Super Cup.

Scamacca scored 19 goals and provided 8 assists in 44 matches across all competitions last season.

Scamacca’s absence is not Atalanta’s only problem, as midfielder Teun Koopmeiners is also seeking a move before the European Super Cup amid strong interest from Juventus.
