Sergi Roberto, Barcelona captain, confirmed that there is no crisis inside the locker rooms due to the recent statements of Ilkay Gundogan and Ronald Araujo.
The German player had criticized what Araujo did in the Paris Saint-Germain match, and the Uruguayan defender came out and said that he preferred not to respond out of respect for his principles and values.
Immediately, the Spanish media said that there was strife within Barcelona, so Roberto himself was forced to come out and confirm that the matter was completely false.
The captain said in statements reported by Mundo Deportivo newspaper, “The statements brought external noise but nothing in the locker room. Gundogan explained what happened in the match, but without any intention of pointing the finger at anyone.”
He also added, “I think everyone wants to win, and what Gundogan did is about trying to help the team win and nothing more. There are no problems this year and we have unity within the team that was the reason for our good performance in Europe away from home.”
He concluded, “We do not need to hold a meeting to talk about this matter. We spoke about it to clarify that there is no problem. We are a family and we understand the noise around us after leaving the Champions League. I confirm that the locker room is united and ready to fight in every match as if it were the final match.”
It is noteworthy that Barcelona now has one title remaining, which is the Spanish League, as it occupies second place behind Real Madrid by 8 points before playing El Clásico next Sunday.
