The newspaper “Sport” revealed that Barcelona’s management has backed down from its previous decision to sign a new striker during the upcoming summer transfer period.
The main plan for Joan Laporta’s management was to sign a young striker to prepare him to succeed Robert Lewandowski, who will stay at least until the summer of 2026.
But surprisingly, the Barca management backed down from this plan, and decided not to sign a new striker and bet that Lewandowski can carry the Blaugrana attack on his shoulders.
Given what Lewa has presented this season in terms of numbers and actual impact on the field, there is a belief that despite his advanced age, he can play his role to the fullest.
Lewandowski, 37, has scored 32 goals this season in all competitions, while making 3 others.
Barcelona has recently been linked with several strikers, the latest of whom was Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who is said to have already agreed to join the Blaugrana.
Barcelona’s efforts will focus on signing a left winger, as coach Hansi Flick designs, with many options led by Liverpool star Luis Diaz.
