La Liga president Javier Tebas confirmed that Barcelona can sign a new goalkeeper to replace Ter Stegen after his long absence from the stadiums was confirmed.
Due to an injury to one of the hamstrings, Stegen will be out of the stadiums for at least 8 months, which means the end of his season.
Tebas said, “I confirm that Barcelona can sign a new player instead of him, who could be a goalkeeper or in another position.”
According to the newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”, Barcelona’s management has settled on signing a new goalkeeper, and will look for the highest quality at the lowest possible cost.
Barcelona can sign any goalkeeper who is not bound by a valid contract with a club to join the Catalans immediately, in which case there are 10 free options available.
The options are headed by former Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas, along with former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius.
Other options include Jordi Masip, who played for Barcelona from 2014 to 2017, former Bremen goalkeeper Pavlenka, Edgar Badia and Tomas Vaclik.
Etretat Berisha, Tomas Koubek, Alexandre Letellier and Kostas Lambrou are also included.
Barcelona have yet to decide whether to wait until January to sign a goalkeeper from a club or whether to sign a goalkeeper from a free agent immediately.
