French press reports have revealed that Paris Saint-Germain has emerged as one of the clubs interested in signing Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams during the current summer transfer window.
Williams is Barcelona’s top priority for attacking reinforcement this summer, and club officials have even met with his agent and sent him an official offer to secure his signature.
However, it seems that the competition for the 22-year-old will be fierce, as Paris Saint-Germain sees the Spanish international as a capable replacement for Kylian Mbappe on the left wing after his impressive performance at Euro 2024.
According to the latest report, the idea of signing Williams stems from the desire of coach Luis Enrique, who previously worked with the Ghanaian-origin player when he was the manager of the Spanish national team.
The presence of Paris in the negotiations undoubtedly worries Barcelona, as the French club is able to offer the player a larger financial package given the economic differences between the two clubs. However, the player’s desire, according to what has been announced so far, is to join Barcelona.
It is worth noting that any club can sign Williams only for 58 million euros, which is the value of the release clause in his contract with Bilbao. Barcelona is still looking for ways to secure these necessary funds, unlike PSG, which is able to pay the amount immediately.
