The newspaper “Sport” reported that the Barcelona administration will try to persuade Robert Lewandowski and his agent to reduce the player’s huge salary to prevent a new economic crisis at Camp Nou.
The Polish star’s salary is expected to exceed 30 million euros next season, which will constitute a real economic crisis that the Catalan club will suffer from next season.
Lewandowski’s agent, Pini Zahavi, will meet with Barcelona sporting director Deco to discuss the matter next week, and the matter may even come to discussing the future of the player himself in Catalonia.
Lewandowski does not want to leave, and is determined to stay until the end of his contract next season, while Xavi Hernandez does not mind his departure if it means signing new players such as Dani Olmo and Neco Williams.
With Lewandowski’s level declining this season and the fact that he will turn 36 next August, and given his salary, Barcelona has become open to his departure, or at least finding a solution that satisfies all parties.
In media statements on Sunday, Zahavi confirmed that Lewandowski will never leave Barcelona, but rather will seek to provide the performance that ensures him a continuation at Camp Nou beyond the summer of 2025.
