The newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” reported that Barcelona has reached a near-agreement with Dani Olmo to join the ranks of the Catalan club during the current summer transfer window.
Barcelona’s priority remains to close the deal for Nico Williams, but at the same time, sporting director Deco is working to sign Olmo, either as a replacement if the deal for his compatriot fails, or as an additional signing based on Hansi Flick’s desire.
According to the latest report, the negotiations between Barcelona and Olmo were very positive in the past few hours, and the player was convinced by the offer made to him, although there are still some final touches remaining until he gives his final approval to return to Camp Nou.
However, there remains one obstacle to this deal, and that is the club where Olmo plays, Leipzig.
Basically, the German club is determined not to let Olmo leave, but due to the friendly agreement between the player and the management, he may be allowed to leave but on the condition of receiving a large financial offer.
Leipzig is insisting on getting 60 million euros from anyone who wants to sign Olmo, while Barcelona cannot meet this figure, and their first offer was “provocative” to the German club.
Barcelona had offered Leipzig 40 million euros in installments over 4 years, with another 20 million to be paid if the club won the La Liga and Champions League titles.
In principle, Barca needs to get rid of one of its big players to be able to pay Olmo’s value, or at least find a place for him in the team’s squad in line with the rules of financial fair play.
