“Sport” newspaper reported that Hansi Flick offered his services to Barcelona in order to take over the technical leadership to succeed Xavi Hernandez, but the Catalan club’s management does not favor the idea very much.
Despite the tremendous achievements that Flick achieved with Bayern Munich, Barcelona’s management doubts the German coach’s ability to deal with young players and the difficult economic conditions at Camp Nou.
Flick does not usually rely on young players, and his coaching experience is limited only to Germany, and thus Barcelona’s analysis concluded that he is not the most suitable man to succeed Xavi.
However, his agent, Pini Zahavi, is still exerting strong pressure on Joan Laporta’s management, due to the strong relationship between them, in order to convince her to sign a contract with Flick, and there is a weak possibility that this pressure will ultimately succeed.
At the same time, the current Brighton coach, Roberto De Zerbi, remains the preferred choice of the Barcelona administration, but his position has become very complicated.
Barcelona does not intend to pay 15 million euros, which is the value of the release clause in the coach’s contract extending until 2026, and it is not expected that the Italian will pay it from his pocket or negotiate with Brighton about it.
In the past few hours, Liverpool have entered into negotiations with De Zerbi and are ready to pay the release clause, as the Italian has become the second choice to succeed Jurgen Klopp in the event that the contract with Xabi Alonso fails.
At the end of its report, “Sport” indicated that the upcoming international break in March will likely witness various meetings during which Laporta will decide the identity of the new coach of the Catalan club.
