Barcelona officials have reached an agreement with coach Hansi Flick to renew his contract for another year, keeping him as coach of the Catalan club until the summer of 2027.
Flick took over as coach of Barcelona last summer, succeeding Xavi Hernandez. The club is currently competing for a historic treble, topping the La Liga standings and facing Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final. The club also reached the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2019.
According to Marca, the Barcelona management and Flick agreed on the renewal because they did not want to distract the team with any other issues at the moment.
Even if Flick loses the three titles he is competing for this season, he will remain in his position next season, as he enjoys the unwavering confidence of Joan Laporta’s management, as well as the great confidence and love of the players.
Barcelona and Flick decided to postpone announcing the renewal until the end of the season to review the club’s Financial Fair Play situation and avoid getting bogged down in pointless economic turmoil.
Barcelona wanted Flick to renew his contract for two years, not one, but the Catalans ultimately respected the coach’s desire for a short-term contract that would be renewed annually by mutual agreement.
It’s worth noting that Flick, who has previously coached the German national team and Bayern Munich, won his first title with Barcelona in Saudi Arabia last January when they won the Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid.
