The RAC1 network revealed that Barcelona’s management has already settled on the first player it will sacrifice next summer in order to solve the club’s economic crisis.
According to the report, this player is defender Iñigo Martinez, who joined the Catalan club for free last summer from Athletic Bilbao.
Barca’s decision to offer Martinez in the next summer market comes for two reasons, the first is to give young defender Pau Cobarci a greater opportunity, and the second is because the Basque defender will not leave for free in the summer of 2025.
The Catalan club appreciates what Martinez did well, but there is a glut of players in the center back position, and given many factors such as age and contract length, it is better for the 32-year-old to leave.
At the same time, the recent performance shown by Koparsi after his promotion confirms that Martinez’s departure will not be a crisis, but rather the 16-year-old young man may be a better alternative than him.
It is noteworthy that President Joan Laporta confirmed that there is no intention to sell Ronald Araujo, regardless of the offer presented, while Jules Kounde also still enjoys the confidence of the Catalan administration.
Barcelona has the duo Clement Longlet and Eric Garcia, who are loaned to Aston Villa and Girona, along with Kounde, Araujo, Andres Christensen and Cobarci in the center of defence.
