Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Oriol Romeu will be the third departure from Barcelona this summer.
Despite recent reports suggesting that coach Xavi had decided to give Romeu a chance, the final decision has been made to dispense with his services.
According to Romano, Girona will acquire Romeu on a one-year loan with an option to buy next summer.
The Catalan club has prioritized Romeu as a summer signing and has already reached an agreement with Barcelona on all the details. The player will undergo a medical examination this week.
Romeu joined Barcelona last summer from Girona to replace Sergio Busquets but failed to secure a regular starting place under Xavi Hernandez.
Barcelona paid €3.4 million for the 32-year-old, who made only 39 appearances, scoring no goals and providing just one assist.
Romeu will be the third departure from Barcelona this summer following the sales of Chadi Riad to Crystal Palace and Marc Guehi to Chelsea.
