Barcelona player Joao Cancelo claims that joining Real Madrid was not a good day for him because his playing style was different from that of the Royal Club.
The Portuguese’s name was linked more than once to joining Real Madrid, but after a long journey among Europe’s top players, he settled in Barcelona this season on loan from Manchester City.
Cancelo spoke about how happy he was to wear the Catalan shirt, and said, “I am very happy to be a player in Barcelona. This is the club that I always wanted to play for after Benfica. It is always my favorite team.”
He also added, “Pepe (former Real Madrid player) always told me once that I was supposed to play for Real Madrid, but I said that I was suitable for Barcelona. It is the club I always wanted to be in.”
Cancelo’s loan contract with Barcelona expires at the end of this season, and the Catalan club hopes to keep the 29-year-old despite the difficulty of the task due to the high financial demands of Manchester City.
This season, Cancelo participated in 32 matches in all tournaments, during which he succeeded in scoring 4 goals and assisting 4 others.
