The newspaper “Sport” revealed that Barcelona is about to lose more than a quarter of a billion euros in the event of losing Dani Olmo this winter.
So far, the Catalan club has failed to register Olmo, after La Liga refused to grant Barca a license for the player on the grounds of not meeting the Financial Fair Play laws, and then the Spanish Federation ratified this decision.
According to the contract signed with Barcelona, Olmo has the right to immediately terminate his contract with the Blaugrana if it is confirmed that he cannot be registered, and move to any club for free.
According to “Sport”, the termination of the contract also includes that the Barcelona administration pay Olmo’s full salary until 2030, which is estimated at 48 million euros.
Barcelona will also continue to pay the value of Olmo’s transfer from Leipzig, amounting to 55 million euros, even if the player leaves.
In addition, Olmo would be worth €60m if Barcelona wanted to sell him under normal circumstances, and now he is leaving for free, which is considered an “opportunity cost”.
The last point is that Barcelona will sell the premium seats at Camp Nou for €100m in the hope of resolving the crisis, while in reality the price of the seats is supposed to exceed €200m.
Thus, Barcelona’s total economic losses will amount to €263m, in addition to the loss of reputation, as many players will not feel comfortable moving to a club that does not guarantee their registration.
