Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeneß has announced that Alphonso Davies will not leave the Bavarian club this summer even if he does not renew his contract.
The direction was either for the Canadian to renew his contract that expires in the summer of 2025, or to be sold this summer to generate some money from him instead of leaving for free next year.
But Bayern were clear that this strategy has changed, and that Davies will stay even if he does not renew, despite having offers from other clubs, most notably Real Madrid.
“We told him very clearly that if he does not renew his contract, he will stay until it ends,” Hoeneß said in press statements on Sunday.
As for the current renewal offer for the 23-year-old, Hoeneß confirmed that Bayern would not increase it, saying, “He will not get any extra money, that’s over.”
And so, Real Madrid’s dreams of signing Davies this summer are dashed, and it remains most likely that he will join Los Blancos next summer on a free transfer.
