Recent events during the Argentina-Morocco match at the Paris 2024 Olympics have enraged Argentine football legend Lionel Messi.
Argentina scored an equalizer in the 106th minute, sparking outrage among Moroccan fans in the stands who stormed the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium.
Players, officials, and referees left the field and remained in the locker room for two full hours. The match was eventually resumed, but VAR overturned Argentina’s goal, and the final three minutes were played, ending with a 2-1 victory for Morocco.
Messi reacted to these events with a concise message on his Instagram, writing, “Unbelievable.”
Messi was not the only Argentine star to comment on what happened. Rodrigo De Paul wrote, “You can beat any opponent, with you until the end.”
The Argentine team will face Iraq in the second round of the group stage on Saturday and will conclude the group stage with a match against Ukraine on Tuesday.
Messi had been a potential participant in the Olympics but decided not to participate due to the overlap with the Copa America and Inter Miami’s need for him.
The 37-year-old is currently sidelined due to an injury sustained in the Copa America final against Colombia.
