Ayoub El Kaabi’s goal for Olympiacos against Fiorentina was not only important on the collective level for his team to achieve the European Conference League title, but the Moroccan star entered history from its widest gates.
El Kaabi succeeded in scoring the only goal for Olympiacos, which made his club history after becoming the first Greek club to achieve a European title in history.
The number of El Kaabi’s goals this season in the qualifying rounds for the European Conference League rose to 11 goals, thus beating the record registered in the name of the legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.
Ronaldo scored 10 goals in the Champions League knockout rounds in the 2016-2017 season, then Benzema repeated the matter, but in the 2021-2022 season, and before that, Falcao did the same thing with Porto in 2011.
Now, after his goal in the final, Ayoub El Kaabi has become the highest-scoring player in the knockout stages of European club competitions with 11 goals.
The 30-year-old played only 9 matches in the European Conference League, which Olympiacos started in the playoffs (after relegation from the Europa League), and perhaps his match against Aston Villa at Villa Park, when he scored three goals, was the strongest ever.
