Dani Carvajal, the Real Madrid player, defended referee Gil Manzano in light of the fierce attack he was being subjected to due to his controversial decision in the match between the Royal Club and Valencia two weeks ago.
Because he blew the whistle at the end of the match while the ball was still in the air, which prevented Real Madrid from leaving with the three points from the Mestalla Stadium, the arbitration committee decided to punish him by removing him from leading matches in La Liga for two weeks.
Although Carvajal was directly affected by Manzano’s decisions, he went out to the media and defended him, saying in an interview with Cadena Cop, “We all make mistakes.”
He also added, “Manzano made a mistake. What will I do? I also make mistakes.”
He concluded, “I trust the professionalism of the Spanish referees. It is a difficult task, but we are all human. I am confident that Manzano did not intend to make this mistake.”
It remains to be noted that the Real Madrid administration has not stopped attacking arbitration recently through the club’s official channel, which has sparked the anger of La Liga and the rest of the clubs as it imposes more pressure on arbitration.
