The Argentine international left United’s match against Crystal Palace on Sunday in tears after suffering what appeared to be a very serious injury to his knee.
Martinez underwent medical tests on Monday that confirmed that he has suffered a cruciate ligament tear and will need at least nine months to return to the field.
Fortunately for United, there are more than one alternative to Martinez in the heart of the defense, such as Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire, and the Red Devils have recently signed youngster Aidan Haven from Arsenal.
Ruben Amorim has praised Lisandro Martinez and hinted that he is the best defender currently in his possession, which makes his injury, even despite the presence of a replacement, a big blow to the Portuguese manager.
Martinez will now hope to recover from his injury faster than expected so that he can be in time for the start of the new season with Manchester United.
