The English Football Association suspended Chelsea star Mykhailo Mudryk after testing positive for doping.
A routine urine sample taken by Mudryk last October proved that he had used doping, and another sample is supposed to be tested in the coming days to confirm or deny the matter.
Chelsea confirmed in an official statement its great support for Mudryk and stressed that the player had never intentionally taken banned substances, and will work with the relevant authorities to find out the reason for the positive result.
As for the Ukrainian player himself, he confirmed his respect for the suspension decision and said, “I am confident that I did nothing wrong, I did not intentionally take any banned substance.”
He continued, “I and the club are working to investigate what happened, and I hope to return to the pitch soon.”
If Mudryk is found to have intentionally taken doping, he will be subject to a four-year ban, while if the anti-doping committee finds it was not intentional, he could be suspended for a maximum of two years.
Former Manchester United and Juventus star Paul Pogba was subjected to a similar situation, and was suspended for four years before the sentence was reduced to return again starting next March.
It should be noted that Mudryk is one of Chelsea’s biggest deals in history, as the London club paid €100 million to acquire the services of the 23-year-old in 2023 from Shakhtar.
