Marca newspaper reported that the Barcelona administration has begun holding talks with Lamine Yamal’s agent, Jorge Mendes, in order to renew the player’s contract and increase his salary.
The Spanish international signed a contract with Barcelona in October 2023 that keeps him Catalan until 2026, however, his great brilliance in the past months makes the Barca administration try to secure him more.
According to the report, the Blaugrana administration wants to give the 17-year-old a significant increase in his salary so that he does not feel any temptation from any other club outside La Liga.
Yamal currently receives only 800 thousand euros annually, and the basic idea of Laporta’s administration is for his salary to become within the category of the club’s highest salaries, so that he receives from 8 to 10 million euros annually, i.e. multiplying his salary 10 times or more.
Once Yamal turns 18, he can sign a professional contract according to Spanish laws, and then the contract will be extended until the summer of 2030 with a penalty clause of one billion euros to keep the player.
Yamal is already attracting the attention of several clubs, most notably Paris Saint-Germain, which is said to be willing to pay 200 million euros for him, but money is not in the Barcelona administration’s considerations, as they see the Moroccan-born player as the core of the club’s project in the coming years.
It remains to be noted that Yamal clearly announced in a press interview a few days ago that he is not thinking of leaving Barcelona and dreams of making history with the Blaugrana in the coming years.
