Chelsea’s squad includes more than 40 players, all of whom are new signings made by the new owner, Todd Boehly, raising doubts about how such a large number of players can train together.
This prompted a response from coach Enzo Maresca, who tried to downplay the fact that there is chaos within Chelsea, but in one way or another confirmed it.
The Italian coach said, “I don’t work with 42 players as some people think, I only work with 21 players.”
He continued, “The rest of the 15 or 20 players train away from me, I don’t see them, and it doesn’t seem as chaotic as it appears from the outside, I assure you.”
He concluded, “These players can have contracts for 20 years, I don’t care about that, that’s not my problem.”
Maresca’s statement means that 20 players at Chelsea, who were bought for huge sums of money, do not train and have no chance of playing for the team in the first place, which confirms the extent of the chaos within Stamford Bridge and the randomness of the deals.
