Famous journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Chelsea is close to reaching an agreement with its new coach, who will succeed Mauricio Pochettino in leading the Blues.
Many names have been mentioned in recent days, such as Xavi Hernandez and Kieran McKenna, and it has been said that Thomas Tuchel’s return to Stamford Bridge is not ruled out as well.
But in the end, the current Leicester City coach, Enzo Maresca, was the desired man, and after a round of dialogues between the two parties, the coach accepted the London club’s offer.
Maresca is still linked to a contract with Leicester City until the summer of 2026, so the Chelsea management must enter into negotiations with the “Foxes” and pay compensation to sign the Italian coach.
Maresca previously worked as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City from 2022 until last summer when he left to coach Leicester City.
The 44-year-old succeeded in achieving the Premiership and returning Leicester to the Premier League quickly. In all, in the past season, he won 36 matches, lost 13, and tied 4 others in all tournaments.
