Christian Gross succeeds Gomez as Zamalek coach

Christian Gross arrived in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on Sunday evening, to take over the coaching of Zamalek in his second term, succeeding the resigned coach Jose Gomez.

Gomez resigned last week in order to travel to Saudi Arabia to work as a coach for the bottom of the Roshn League, Al-Fateh.

Zamalek began searching for a foreign coach to succeed Gomez, and the final list included the names of the trio Gross, Joe Zinbauer and the coach of the Egyptian youth team, Mikali.

Ultimately, Hussein Labib’s administration decided to contract with Gross, after the Swiss coach expressed his approval of the White offer to return again to Mit Okba.

The cameras captured Gross at Cairo International Airport on Sunday evening, where he will then head to Borg El Arab Stadium to watch the match between Zamalek and Al-Masry in the African Confederation Cup.

After the match, Gross will hold a session with the Zamalek administration to complete the final touches on the agreement between the two parties, then sign the contracts and announce the 70-year-old as the new coach of the White Castle.

According to Egyptian media, Gross will be assisted in training Zamalek by French load planner Cheikh Bouzian and goalkeeper coach Thomas Gruther, along with Egyptian assistant Amir Azmy Megahed.

It is worth noting that Gross trained Zamalek in 2019 and led the team to win the Confederation Cup title before being arbitrarily dismissed by former president Mortada Mansour.
