Manchester United pulled off a huge surprise, after defeating its neighbor Manchester City in the FA Cup final with a score of 2-1.
The match, which was held at Wembley Stadium, comes a week after the end of the Premier League, in which City won its title for the fourth time in a row, while United ranked eighth.
However, coach Erik ten Hag’s squad was able to win the title thanks to goals from Kobe Maino and Alejandro Garnacho in the first half, despite Jeremy Doku reducing the deficit in the last moments.
With this result, United takes revenge for losing the cup title last season, when it lost at Wembley 2-1 to Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Thus, the Spanish coach’s squad emerges with only one title this season, which is the English Premier League, and is deprived of achieving the domestic double.
Perhaps the biggest losers from United’s victory are Chelsea, as the Red Devils secured participation in the Europa League with this victory despite occupying eighth place in the league.
As a result, United will play with Tottenham in the Europa League, while sixth-placed Chelsea will head for the first time in its history to the European Conference League, while seventh-placed Newcastle will not play in continental competitions next season.
