Porto coach Sergio Conceicao sparked controversy after his team was eliminated from the Champions League round of 16 by Arsenal, as he accused Gunners coach Mikel Arteta of uttering obscene words against him.
Arsenal won on penalties after winning in normal time 1-0, qualifying for the first time in the Champions League quarter-finals since 2010.
After the match, Conceição attacked his counterpart Arteta and said, “Arteta came to the Porto bench and insulted my family in Spanish.”
He also added, “I told him that the person who insulted him is no longer with us. I hope he will worry more about training his team. They have quality and play at modest levels.”
Arteta was asked about this in the press conference after the match, and the Spanish coach sparked controversy by saying, “I have no comment on that, thank you very much.”
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal officials completely denied that Arteta had insulted Conceição, as the Portuguese coach claimed.
