Controversial Penalty for Real Madrid and Severe Refereeing Criticism (Video)

The Real Madrid vs. Leganes match witnessed a controversial refereeing decision, but this time in favor of the Royal Club.

Referee Pablo Gonzalez Fuertes decided in the 32nd minute to award Real Madrid a largely unclear penalty, which drew harsh criticism on social media.

The Leganes defender made a very gentle tackle on Arda Güler, and likely did not touch him. However, the referee blew his whistle and awarded the penalty to the Santiago Bernabéu side.

Kylian Mbappé was able to score the penalty and give Real Madrid the lead, but it did not last less than a minute as Diego Garcia equalized, and then Raba put Leganes ahead in the 41st minute.

The penalty sparked a wave of attacks against the referee, as well as Real Madrid TV, for what many considered “terrorism” against referees.

Over the past few months, Real Madrid has attacked the referees on its channel, promoting the idea that the refereeing is against Los Blancos. The referee’s actions today clearly demonstrate how the pressure paid off.
