Kylian Mbappé scored two goals in Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-1 win over Barcelona in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, bringing him very close to a historic record recorded by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Mbappe has become the second to have scored the most away goals in the Champions League knockout rounds after “Don”, and it seems that the Portuguese’s historic record is in grave danger.
The French international reached his 16th goal in the knockout stages from 12 away matches (with Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco).
As for Ronaldo, over the course of his long career, he scored 23 goals in 39 elimination matches away from his home stadium, meaning that the difference between the two teams narrowed to only 7 goals.
Given that Mbappe is only 25 years old, the opportunity seems ripe for him to ascend to a historic throne in the Champions League in the coming seasons.
Mbappe’s first opportunity will be when he visits Signal Iduna Park at the end of April to face Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals.
Mbappe raised his total number of goals in the Champions League to 48 goals in 71 matches, and Ronaldo is still the all-time top scorer for “With the Ears” with 140 goals.
