Al Ain defender Khaled Al Hashemi claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo threatened his club with revenge in the second leg of the AFC Champions League, scheduled for Al Awal Park Stadium in Riyadh.
The first leg at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium ended with Al Ain’s victory thanks to Sufyan Rahimi’s goal in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Asian competition, amid modest participation from Ronaldo.
Al-Hashemi spoke to the media after the match and revealed what Ronaldo told him during the match, and that he vowed to respond in the return match, achieve victory and advance to the semi-finals.
Al-Hashemi said, “Ronaldo said that the result of 1-0 is nothing in football and that Al-Nasr will win the second leg.”
He also added, “Ronaldo was angry with the refereeing. I told him that he was right and that the refereeing was one of the worst in Asia, but the mistakes were on both sides, not just on Al-Nasr.”
Ronaldo was famous for his decisive interventions in the Champions League knockout rounds, and he may be counting on his history to lead Al-Nasr in the second leg to cross over and face the winner of Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad in the semi-finals.
