Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has attacked FIFA and UEFA over the crowded fixture schedule.
The Belgian star expressed his fears of a disaster for the health of players due to the crazy number of matches each season, which reaches approximately 80 matches for each team.
De Bruyne told Reuters: “The real crisis will appear after the Club World Cup.”
He added: “The period between the Club World Cup final and the first match in the English Premier League will not exceed three weeks, so we have three weeks to rest and prepare to play another 80 matches.”
He continued his attack: “The Professional Footballers’ Association in England and other players’ unions have tried to find solutions, but nothing seems to happen.”
He concluded: “The problem is that UEFA and FIFA continue to add matches, and we can express our concerns, but we have not reached solutions.. It seems that money speaks louder than the voices of the players.”
This season, UEFA has increased the number of Champions League matches by two additional matches in the group stage, which may reach four if the team occupies one of the positions from 9 to 24.
The Club World Cup will be held immediately after the end of the current season in the United States of America with the participation of 32 teams, which means that each team will play at least three additional matches.
