Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong expressed his great disappointment with the number of titles he achieved with the Catalan club, noting that he still wants to continue with the Blaugrana.
The Dutch international’s contract with Barcelona extends until the summer of 2026, and there are attempts to renew the contract in order for the player to reduce his salary, which amounts to 25 million euros annually.
De Jong spoke about the issue of renewing his contract, saying, “This is a topic for the press and not for me. All I want is to play football, and then I will see what the club wants, and then I can make my decision with my agent and my family.”
He also added, “People think that I want to stay at Barcelona forever because life outside of football here is good, but what happens on the pitch remains more important to me.”
He continued, “I will leave Barcelona in one of two cases: when I feel that I cannot contribute enough, or if the team cannot compete.”
“The truth is that I feel disappointed, I can’t hide it, when I joined Barcelona I didn’t expect that in four years I would win the league once, the cup once and the Super Cup only once,” he concluded.
Since his return from injury, the 27-year-old has played 13 games for Barcelona this season, scoring one goal and making another.
