Death of an Egyptian player due to cardiac arrest

Egyptian stadiums witnessed a new unfortunate incident, as Mohamed Shawky Abdel Aziz Ibrahim, a player for Kafr El-Sheikh, died due to cardiac arrest.

The incident dates back to the match between Kafr El-Sheikh and Zarqa last Wednesday, when Shawky fainted due to cardiac arrest, and was transferred to Zarqa Hospital.

Once again, the ambulance present at the stadium was not adequately equipped to revive the player’s heart, and he was transferred to the hospital, and the medical staff succeeded in reviving his heart after 40 full minutes.

The Egyptian player was placed in intensive care on a ventilator, and his heart stopped again, then he was revived, before he died on Monday, November 19, 2024.

This is the second time in less than a year that a similar incident has occurred, as Ahmed Refaat fell in a similar condition in Alexandria, and after being rescued and brought back to life, he died last May due to complications.

The Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhi, had directed the Supreme Committee for Medical Care to investigate the availability of first aid in the Mohamed Shawky incident after opening a comprehensive investigation into the causes of the accident.
