The Telegraph reported that Real Madrid will pay £5 million to Chelsea after the Royal Club reaches the 2024 Champions League final.
The reason for this is due to the transfer of Eden Hazard from Chelsea to Real Madrid in 2019, which cost the Merengue coffers at the time 100 million euros.
According to the contract concluded between the two parties, the Spanish club is obliged to pay a bonus to Chelsea if it reaches the Champions League final, even despite Hazard’s retirement and departure from Real Madrid.
The existing contract between Real Madrid and Hazard was for 5 years (until the summer of 2024) before it was terminated in the summer of 2023 by mutual consent, but throughout its duration – even despite the termination – the Merengues are required to pay the bonuses stipulated with Chelsea.
Thus, although Hazard has retired from football, Real Madrid is required to pay the bonus amounting to 5 million pounds sterling to Chelsea within the next few days.
Hazard’s experience with Real Madrid was very modest, as he suffered from many injuries and increased weight. He did not succeed in performing what was expected of him and remained confined to the bench most of the time.
