Real Madrid star Fede Valverde made a huge sacrifice in order to participate in the Manchester City match in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 play-off.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Valverde suffered an injury before the second leg, and was supposed to not participate in the match or at least be on the bench.
But the Uruguayan star was determined to support coach Carlo Ancelotti’s squad and participate in the match no matter the cost, and here he needed medical intervention to help him.
Valverde received painkillers injections so that he could participate in the right-back position against City, due to his desire not to increase his team’s suffering from injuries and having to make tactical changes to fill the void.
Lucas Vazquez was not physically ready to participate despite recovering from his injury, while Dani Carvajal was absent due to injury, so Valverde was the only option for Ancelotti.
In the spirit of a leader, Valverde decided to challenge his injury to play, and it seems that the painkillers did their job and the 25-year-old succeeded in stopping any danger from City from his side.
Valverde is expected to miss the Girona match, or be on the bench, in order to give him a little rest as he has played the most matches this season for Real Madrid.
