Benfica star Angel Di María has received a substantial offer from the Mexican league to join the club during the upcoming summer transfer window on a free transfer.
The Argentine international’s contract with his Portuguese club expires at the end of this season, and Benfica will most likely not renew it due to his advanced age and frequent injuries.
According to the newspaper “A Bola,” Club America has expressed strong interest in signing Di María. This is the second time the famous Mexican club has pursued the 37-year-old.
Club America is willing to make Di María one of the highest-paid players in the Mexican league, offering him more than $3 million annually, surpassing stars such as Sergio Ramos at Monterrey and James Rodriguez at Pachuca.
Di María has not yet made a decision about his future; his primary desire remains to continue with Benfica, while the Portuguese club has not yet made a decision.
Di María remains open to retiring if he leaves Benfica, unless he wants to earn more money through a less risky experience in Mexico.
It’s worth noting that Di María has participated in 32 matches in all competitions this season, scoring 14 goals and providing eight assists.
