Early Olympic Madness: Morocco Defeats Argentina After Two Hours!

In a highly dramatic turn of events in the opening match of the 2024 Paris Olympics football tournament, Morocco defeated Argentina.

Morocco took a 2-0 lead through Sofyan Rahimi, before Julian Simeone pulled one back in the 68th minute.

The referee added 15 minutes of stoppage time and made several decisions that clearly favored the Argentine team.

With just over a minute remaining of the 15 added minutes, Argentina scored a second goal through Cristian Medina, sparking outrage among the Moroccan fans at Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium.

Some fans stormed the pitch, forcing both teams to leave the field prematurely without the goal being reviewed or the referee blowing the final whistle.

After more than two hours in the locker room, the Olympic organizing committee decided to resume the match and review Argentina’s second goal using VAR.

VAR confirmed that the goal was offside and was disallowed. The match then resumed for 3 minutes without fans and ended with a 2-1 victory for Morocco.

The Atlas Lions now top the group with 3 points, awaiting the match between Iraq and Ukraine in the same group.
