Mohamed Tarek, a player for the Egyptian Olympic team, has sparked ridicule after claiming that Morocco’s 6-0 victory over the Pharaohs at the 2024 Paris Olympics was due to pure luck.
The Egyptian defender stated in a media interview, “Morocco was extremely lucky in our match. They had six chances on goal and scored all of them.”
He added, “We prepared for the match against Morocco like any other match in the tournament. Our goal was to win, and we promised the minister and the football association a special reward if we did.”
He concluded by saying, “We didn’t deserve this ending at the Olympics and losing in this way. Our ambition was to reach the final. All the players gave their all.”
Tarek had come on as a substitute in the match against Spain and caused a goal, then came on as a substitute in the semi-final match against France and also caused a goal. He repeated the same thing when he started in the match against Morocco but on a larger scale, causing more than one goal during the 6-goal rout by Achraf Hakimi’s teammates.
