Egyptian media revealed that the Egyptian referees committee chose Amin Omar to referee the Al-Ahly and Zamalek match in the Egyptian Super Cup final.
Mahmoud Marouf took charge of the Zamalek and Pyramids match in the semi-final, and was severely criticized for many decisions from both sides.
In contrast, Ahmed El-Ghandour took charge of the Al-Ahly and Ceramica match, where he was severely attacked after the match for not giving Akram Tawfik a clear second yellow card and consequently expelling him.
With the news that Amin Omar would be the one to referee the summit match, Zamalek came out through its official spokesman Ahmed Salem and expressed its objection to this choice, demanding a foreign referee.
Salem said, “Question marks about the level of refereeing in today’s matches, which portends a refereeing disaster – we can do without it – that may happen next Thursday.”
He continued, “Why don’t we hire foreign referees or referees from the sisterly state of the Emirates to avoid problems?”
The Egyptian Referees Committee had previously confirmed that the decision was made to hold the Super Cup with Egyptian referees and not to rely on foreign referees no matter what the cost.
If Al-Ahly intervenes and also demands the presence of foreign referees, then the matter may change considering that both parties to the match will have agreed on the same matter.
