Fabregas continues to “cook” in Como and signs the former Real Madrid star

The efforts of Spanish football legend and Como’s current Italian coach, Cesc Fabregas, succeeded in signing former Real Madrid and Manchester United star Raphael Varane.

Varane’s contract with United expired at the end of last season and the two parties agreed not to renew it, so he was free to move wherever he wanted for free, amid great interest from American and Saudi clubs.

But Como, newly promoted to the Italian League, extended an invitation to Varane to travel to Italy and talk about a possible transfer, and Fabregas worked to convince the Frenchman of his long-term project at the club.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Fabregas’ efforts were crowned with success, and Varane informed the Italian club officials of his agreement to move to Como’s ranks next season, despite the modest salary compared to America and Saudi Arabia.

Now all that remains is to draft contracts so that the 32-year-old can sign them and begin a journey that is not expected to be very easy with Como in Serie A.

Signing Varane will be Fabregas’s fourth major step this summer with Como, after including the experienced duo Pepe Reina and Alberto Moreno on a free basis as well, and purchasing Andrea Belotti from Roma.
