Fermín López Denies Morocco a Spot in the Paris 2024 Olympic Final (Video)

The Moroccan national team failed to advance to the final of the Paris 2024 Olympics after losing their semi-final match against Spain 2-1.

Morocco took the lead in the first half through a penalty scored by their top scorer, Sofiane Rahimi, in the 37th minute. The Atlas Lions had several opportunities to extend their lead.

However, Barcelona’s star Fermín López shone brightly, scoring the equalizer in the 65th minute and then providing a brilliant assist for Juanlu Sánchez to score the second goal in the 85th minute.

López increased his goal tally to four, placing him second behind Rahimi, who seems to have secured the tournament’s top scorer title with six goals.

Spain thus became the first team to reach the final and will await the winner of the France vs. Egypt match to compete for the gold and silver medals on August 9th.

Morocco still has a chance to win its first-ever medal in a team sport, as they will play the third-place match against Egypt match on August 8th.
