The official Emirates News Agency announced that the President of the UAE, Mohammed bin Zayed, issued a pardon for the Zamalek trio, Abdel Wahed El-Sayed, Nabil Emad Donga, and Mostafa Shalaby.
The trio spent the last 10 days in prison in Abu Dhabi on charges of assaulting an Emirati security officer and were brought before the court on Monday morning.
The Abu Dhabi court ultimately sentenced the Zamalek trio to one month in prison.
According to the Emirati agency, the pardon for the trio came by a decision from the President of the State, Mohammed bin Zayed, due to the fraternal relations between Egypt and the Emirates.
This was preceded by an announcement from the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports about its intervention in the crisis and the success of reaching an agreement with Emirati officials to resolve the matter.
The trio is expected to return to Cairo under this pardon within the next few hours.
Donga and Mostafa Shalaby are not expected to make it to the Al-Ahly Bank match in the opening of the Egyptian League on Friday, and Abdel Wahed El-Sayed’s position on sitting on the bench also remains unclear.
